110 Bus Route Update

Just a quick note on the ongoing work behind the scenes on the 110 bus route. I recently met with Cllr Clare Head to discuss the re-routing of the bus route, especially in light of the potential developments happening in Whitton High Street. With Lidl already putting their banner on the old Co-Op site and Sainsbury’s potentially looking at the Hyandai car showroom it is more important than ever that Whitton and Heathfield residents have the transport links to get to the Town Centre.
I am happy to report that negotiations are ongoing and a potential breakthrough has been suggested that could bring the 110 bus route up to the hill of the high street when Percy Road ends. The bus would then turn around on itself at a redesigned turning circle at the top of Montrose avenue, where there is currently a grass triangle, going back up Percy Road to meet with its original route. The green triangle is not envisaged to need to be removed but would may need a redesign to allow the buses to turn around.
This route would only add 2-3 minutes to the journey potentially negating the need for an additional bus, which was an original concern of TfL. It would also minimise disruption to current passengers.
I will continue to pursue this issue and update as and when i receive further information.

Lidl Councillor Site Visit

Just a quick update today. I was recently invited to see the progress at the Lidl site now that the hoardings have gone up. I must say that from behind the blue banners there has been a lot of work going on. All the shop units have been cleared out and cleaned so that there is no longer any trace of the dead birds that used to live there. The yard at the back has been cleared and is now accessible for site traffic.

I will keep you updated as an when I hear more but it is refreshing to see that this site, which has been derelict for so long, is now on its way to being brought back into use.
