Well, not quite a Royal attendance but the Royal Family were certainly there in spirit. Following on from last year’s Royal Wedding the residents of Derwent Road once again came out in force displaying fantastic community spirit, even in the face of erratic weather conditions.
I was of course in attendance as a fellow Derwentonian and much thanks must go to my wife for organising the day and to my neighbours for making the day so much fun.
After the Royal cutting of the Union Jack cake the street held a table football tournament. At one point the football table had to moved under cover (the closing of the Wembley Roof) due to what can only be explained as an English Monsoon. Battling through the weather the final was held in dry conditions and I am delighted to say that my neighbour Bob and I won.
I look forward to the street coming out again for the next event. Hopefully though it will be dry next time.
